I have a Postgraduate Diploma with Merit in Dietetics from Glasgow Caledonian University. I also have a BSc Hons degree in Food Marketing and Human Nutrition with Placement from Newcastle University.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and keep up to date with my continuous professional development through various study days, webinars and e-learning. I am also a full member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the Association for the Study of Obesity (ASO) and the BDA Obesity Specialist Group. In September 2020, I was elected as Ordinary member for the BDA Obesity Specialist group committee. This was a huge privilege as I now have the opportunity to represent dietitians working in both adult and childhood obesity prevention and management.
My work has been published in several magazines and posted on various blogs and websites too. This includes Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Network Health Digest, Rhitrition, The Great Run Company, and Dietetics Today. You can see examples of my work here. I have also worked as a full-time food writer for Tesco Magazine, and as a nutritionist for Dr Wills where I was involved in recipe development and content writing.
I find health writing gives me the opportunity to translate nutritional jargon into content that is both interesting and easy to read and understand. I’m pretty interested in all thing’s nutrition, but particularly so in the weight management field. If you want to get in touch about my freelance writing services, please get in contact using the form below.
In May 2019, I was awarded the BDA Pat Judd travel scholarship to work on a Nutrition Education programme in Nepal. I worked with nutritionists to improve the nutritional status of severely malnourished women and children. I also spent time with dietitians in both a local and private hospital and travelled extensively around rural India and Nepal (blog post coming soon!). This gave me an insight into food culture around the world and provided me with a strong knowledge of South Asian cuisine.
In September 2020, I was announced as a winner of the BDA Sustainable Meal Hacks Competition. My winning recipe has been made into a GIF and added to the BDA One Blue Dot toolkit. Check it out here!
In October 2020, I was selected as the winner of the Yakult Educational Grant. I will be using this to participate in Behaviour Change Training parts 1, 2 and 3. This course will be hugely beneficial in the weight management field in which I work, and I am very thankful to The Yakult Science Team for choosing my application.
